Thought for the Week

updated4The Good Shepherd: Called to be Motherly: Today we have two great celebrations. The fourth Sunday of Easter is known as Good Shepherd Sunday. It is also the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Today we also celebrate Mother’s Day. May I wish all the mother’s God’s blessings on this beautiful day. It is a day that we set aside to honour our mothers. It is a day of great joy for many and most importantly it draws our attention to the incredible God given role that mothers have in the life of their children. Mother’s Day gives us a great opportunity to talk about some of God’s more feminine characteristics. We will find a variety of biblical passages to help us doing it. God cares for his people like an eagle hovering over her young (Cf. Deut. 32:11). God is concerned for his people like a midwife cares for the child she’s delivered (Cf. Ps. 22:9-10). God will never forget his children like a mother will not forget her nursing child (Cf. Is. 49:15). As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you (Is. 66:13). God experiences the anger of a mother bear who’s been robbed of her cubs (Cf. Hos. 13:8). There are many other texts from the Bible that we can find that compares God’s love for his people to the love of a mother for her child. I invite all to thank God for the gift of each mother and pray for them. >>btn_read_more
